GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota senior defenseman Robbie Bina has signed a professional contract with the Edmonton Oiler organization. Bina signed a standard American Hockey League two-way contract with the Springfield Falcons, the Oilers' AHL affiliate, the team announced today.
Bina (Grand Forks, N.D.) scored 13 goals and 61 assists in 149 career games with UND. He was also a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team member, selected in his junior and senior seasons.
In 43 games during the 2007-08 season with UND, Bina scored two goals, was second on the team with 23 assists, and had a plus-12 plus/minus ratio. Bina had a breakout junior season, after sitting out the 2005-06 season with an injury. In 2006-07 he was fourth on the team in points (10g, 22a), and was 15th in the nation for points per game by a defenseman (.71 ppg).
Bina is the fifth Fighting Sioux student-athlete to sign a professional contract this summer, following Taylor Chorney (Edmonton), Rylan Kaip (Atlanta), T.J. Oshie (St. Louis) and Kyle Radke (ECHL's Idaho).
