GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux suffered its first setback of the season as the Sioux rally late but come up short in comback attempt, losing 3-2 to Manitoba Saturday at the Ralph Englestad Arena. Sophomore Alyssa Wiebe and junior Janet Babchishin scored UND's goals.

The Sioux came into the game looking for a sweep but it was the Bisons that showed all the early intensity. Tammy Brade put Manitoba up in the game scoring a two-on-one goal at the 12:48 mark.

UND welcomed senior captain Kelly Lewis and returning leading scorer sophomore Alyssa Wiebe back into the lineup after missing last nights game competing for the WCHA All-Star Team against the U.S. Olympic Team in St. Paul, Minn., and Wiebe made her presence known early, evening the game at one a piece with her first goal of the year at 15:55.

The Lead was short-lived though as Rachele Bosc gave the Bisons the lead back that they wouldn't relinquish only 1:05 later.

Brade would score her second goal of the game and open up the lead to two goals for Manitoba in the second period at 5:16.

The Bisons led total shots on goal through the first two period 10-9, but the Sioux looked like a different team in the third period dominating shots 13-4 and attempted shots 36-6.

Babchishin would cut the lead to one goal scoring with the pulled goalie at 17:53. The Sioux played 4:21 of the final stanza with an empty net.

The Sioux will return to action next weekend opening up conference play against the defending national champion Wisconsin Badgers in a Friday, Saturday series with both games scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. in Madison, Wisc.
