Green defeats White in annual intrasquad scrimmage

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota volleyball fans got their first opportunity to see the 2017 roster in action Tuesday night with the annual Green-White scrimmage at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The intrasquad game featured the team split into two groups playing three sets as the coaching staff got an extended look at players battling for positions heading into the first week of action.

Notes: UND opens year with 10 matches in nine days

North Dakota opens its 2017 campaign this week with its annual Green-White scrimmage Tuesday before the opener Friday at the Ole Miss Rebel Invitational. There, UND will face Chattanooga in the opener, followed by the host Rebels. Saturday, North Dakota draws Louisiana Tech and Florida A&M before heading to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia Tech.

Defending Big Sky champs picked to repeat

OGDEN, Utah-- The defending Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament champions are the overwhelming favorite to repeat in the 2017 league coaches poll. North Dakota received 10 of a possible 11 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and compiled 120 total points, 17 more than runner-up Northern Colorado (2 first-place nods).

Volleyball at it early again on opening day

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The reigning Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament champion North Dakota Fighting Hawks officially opened their defense of their titles early Tuesday morning during the first day of practice. The squad reported for a 12:01 a.m. opening session for the second straight season as they attempt to once again be the first team in the gym and the last one still playing come tournament time.
