Middle hitters key in conference-opening win

CEDAR CITY, Utah-- Following a sloppy 25-16 loss in the first set Thursday at Southern Utah, the University of North Dakota volleyball team rebounded nicely to win 3-1 in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams. UND tallied 10 attack errors in that first set, then combined for just 16 more in the next three sets combined on the way to the road victory.

North Dakota opens Big Sky Conference play this week, heading to Southern Utah Thursday and Northern Colorado Saturday. It starts a stretch where the Fighting Hawks will play six of their first eight conference matches on the road. Next week, UND finally returns home to host Idaho and Eastern Washington on Sep. 28 and 30, respectively.

Merseli grabs Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah-- University of North Dakota senior outside hitter Tamara Merseli was named the Big Sky Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Merseli led UND to a 2-1 week at the Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Invitational, including a thrilling five-set win over IUPUI in Saturday's final match.

GREEN BAY, Wis.-- North Dakota remained perfect in five-set matches, outlasting IUPUI, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Invitational. UND got career bests from a number of players, including 18 kills from Faith Dooley and 17 more from Ashley Brueggeman in the final tuneup before the start of the Big Sky Conference season.

Merseli powers North Dakota to sweep at Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis.-- Senior Tamara Merseli notched her seventh double-double of the season with a match-high 16 kills to go along with 12 digs as North Dakota swept host Green Bay Friday evening. Merseli was just one shy of a season high with her kill output, pacing the Fighting Hawks' offense.

Cal Poly stops UND's win streak at nine

GREEN BAY, Wis.-- Coming into Friday's Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Invitational, UND knew it would have its hands full. Drawing Cal Poly, who was just outside the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Top 25 poll this week, was a formidable team with a formidable team that includes a sister tandem that provided a stiff test defensively. The Mustangs proved all they were advertised, hitting .458 on the way to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-10 sweep of the Fighting Hawks Friday morning.

North Dakota takes a nine-match winning streak into the Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Invitational this week. It will feature a big showdown of mid-major powers in the opener as the Fighting Hawks draw Cal Poly, who moved up to fourth in the last Mid-Major Top 25 Poll (Sep 12) while North Dakota checks in at No. 11. UND will also face the host Green Bay Phoenix and IUPUI in the final tuneups before the start of the Big Sky Conference season.

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota made it a tidy day one at the UND Classic, sweeping both opponents capped by another efficient nightcap against Appalachian State. After logging just seven attack errors in an earlier win Friday, UND recorded just nine in the evening session, the 19th time North Dakota has charted single-digit attack totals in head coach Mark Pryor's tenure and first in back-to-back matches.

The North Dakota volleyball team dominated its in-state rivals Wednesday night in front of the first sell-out crowd in program history. The Fighting Hawks (10-1) pushed their win streak to six overall thanks to a clean sweep of North Dakota State, putting down the Bison 25-18, 25-9 and 25-13.
