Belmont escapes with 2-1 win in tourney opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- North Dakota opened a three-day, five-game tournament at Belmont University Friday, falling 2-1 in the opener to the host Bruins. Kaylin VanDomelen had two of UND's four hits but suffered the loss in the circle, despite allowing just two runs with eight strikeouts.

Notes: Softball two-stepping down to Nashville

North Dakota heads to Nashville, Tenn. for the Belmont Tournament this week. UND gets five games, beginning Friday at host Belmont. The Fighting Hawks will face Tennesee State twice and have tilts lined up with Cleveland State and Fort Wayne this week as well.

TEMPE, Ariz.-- A two-out rally in the sixth boosted Illinois State to a 6-2 win over North Dakota Sunday morning at Farrington Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in the finale of the Littlewood Classic.

TEMPE, Ariz.-- North Dakota dropped a pair of games at day two of the Littlewood Classic, hosted by Arizona State Saturday. San Diego improved to 6-2 overall with an 11-3 win in the opener while Texas State upped its mark to 5-3 with a similar 11-3 record in the nightcap.

TEMPE, Ariz.-- The University of North Dakota softball team faced a pair of teams that appear in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association top 25 poll Friday, falling to Texas State, 11-2, before an 8-0 loss to host Arizona State. The Bobcats are receiving votes in that national poll while the Sun Devils are 18th ranked nationally.

North Dakota heads to its second non-conference tournament, a five-game weekend at Arizona State beginning Friday. UND will get Texas State twice, the host Sun Devils, San Diego and Illinois State in the three days in Tempe, Ariz.

Nadler collects Big Sky Player of the Week nod

OGDEN, Utah-- Senior outfielder Taylor Nadler has been named Big Sky Conference co-Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by league officials. Nadler is coming off an opening weekend performance that saw her record 10 runs batted in and ushered UND to three wins.

Nine-run first powers UND to rout

ORANGEBURG, S.C.-- A nine-run first inning was all North Dakota needed in a 9-0 rout of host South Carolina State Sunday afternoon. UND recorded nine hits in the first frame, including a pair of RBI knocks from Taylor Nadler in that inning alone.

Love delivers numerous times in blowout win

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- With Valentine's Day still being four days away, Love delivered early and often as the University of North Dakota softball team broke the hearts of North Carolina A&T, 11-3, Saturday morning in the finale of the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational at Charleston Southern. UND sophomore outfielder Angel Love went 4-for-4 with three extra base hits and three RBI to power the Fighting Hawks to the win.

Nadler, Mayhood each homer, but Towson rallies

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- Taylor Nadler and Lexi Mayhood each homered in a four-run fifth but Towson rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to win, 9-6, Friday morning at the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern.

UND softball splits on opening day

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- The University of North Dakota softball team split a weather-shifted doubleheader with host Charleston Southern Thursday afternoon to open its 2018 season. UND dropped a tough 1-0 decision in the opener on an unearned run but roared back for a 4-2 win in the nightcap, highlighted by senior Hannah Bergh's complete-game win.
