Former UND letterwinner Adam Jacobson came back to his alma mater in Sept. 2014 as assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator and he begins his fifth season on the sidelines in the 2018-19 campaign. His recruiting efforts have helped land incoming players who will continue the successful tradition at UND.

“Adam was someone I had kept an eye on during his career,” UND head coach Travis Brewster said at the time of his hiring. “He has gained valuable experience and proven that his tireless work ethic is a good fit for Division I coaching.  Adam has expressed interest in returning to UND, this time the timing was right.  He will step right in as the recruiting coordinator, work as a player development coach for the forwards as well emphasis on defensive concepts for the team. It’s exciting to have Adam Jacobson back as he embraces the North Dakota way,”

Jacobson came to UND after serving a two-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Mary. In 2013-14 the Marauders went 17-10 overall and 14-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). He mentored All-NSIC First Teamer Linda Murray, who posted averages of 15.9 points and 9.7 rebounds in conference play. In his first season, U-Mary went 19-11 overall, 13-9 in the NSIC, good for second place in the North Division.

Prior to joining the Marauder staff he was the women’s assistant coach at Gillette College, in Gillette, Wyo. for the 2011-12 season, rejoining the coaching ranks after several years in the private sector.  At GC, Jacobson helped guide the Pronghorns to a record of 20-12, their first 20 win season in Gillette College school history.

Jacobson began his coaching career on the men’s side in 2006-07 as an assistant at Scottsdale Community College (SCC) in Scottsdale, Ariz., under Paul Eberhardt.  While at SCC, Jacobson helped the Artichokes to one their few winning seasons in school history. He later was a graduate assistant under Tom Billeter at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.  During his time there, Augustana had its first 20-win season since 1988-1989, finishing the year 22-9. Augustana advanced to the second round of the Division II National Tournament. In 2008-09, he moved to the top assistant spot at Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D. Under Jeff Trumbauer, Jacobson helped the Jimmies to a strong finish in the Dakota Athletic Conference.

As a player, Jacobson played three seasons (2003-06) at North Dakota after transferring from Northern Iowa. In his senior campaign, the Fargo, N.D., native averaged 10.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from beyond the three-point arc (33-of-87). Prior to coming to UND, he played 11 games at UNI, averaging three points and two rebounds per game before transferring after his freshman season. As a prep, he lettered four times at Fargo Shanley, averaging 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a senior. His Shanley Deacons won a North Dakota Class A State Championship as a freshman (1998).
