Jessica Kielpinski (pronounced kill-PIN-ski) was announced as the director of basketball operations in August 2015. Kielpinski is a North Dakota native, playing collegiately at New Mexico after a standout prep career at Mandan High School.
“We are extremely excited that Jessica has decided to come back to North Dakota and to the University of North Dakota family,” Brewster said at the time of her hiring. “She will continue to help our program’s culture of success, drawing upon her experience as a Division I and professional basketball athlete. Jessica is a great natural leader and someone who knows the value of hard work. Her knowledge of our program and everyday operations along with her energy and excitement are going to help us greatly in our community.”
Kielpinski comes to UND after serving two seasons as the assistant women’s basketball coach for Otero Junior College. Originally from Mandan, N.D., Kielpinski was a standout high school player where she earned the North Dakota Gatorade player of the year (2007), North Dakota Miss Basketball (2007), and was a part of five consecutive state championships with a record of 94-6.
Following high school, Kielpinski attended the University of New Mexico where she played four seasons and was a two-year starter for the Lobos. She averaged 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in her Lobo career. The 6-foot-1 post player started 53 games over her final two seasons and averaged 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in that span. She helped the Lobos to three postseason appearances, including a Mountain West Conference Tournament title (2008) and an NCAA Tournament appearance (2008) and a pair of WNIT (2009, 2010) appearances.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in general studies from UNM in 2011. Following graduation, Kielpinski played professional basketball in Denmark.
