AMES, Iowa -- Jesse Fenstermacher established a new personal record in the 800-meters, while Shawn Johnson extended personal-best shot put mark today at Iowa State's Bill Bergan Invitational.

Fenstermacher, a junior from Hibbing, Minn., placed sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 1 minute, 52.43 seconds. It was also the third-best time in the Big Sky Conference this season.

Meanwhile, classmate Johnson, a junior from Eveleth, Minn., logged a throw of 55 feet, 4 ¾ inches (16.88 meters) to take third place in the event. He had previously led the Big Sky with a mark of 53 feet, 11 inches (16.43 meters) until Friday night, but today's throw was good enough to give him the second-best conference throw this season.

Johnson also established a personal record in the weight throw with a heave of 51 feet, 6 ½ inches (15.71 meters).

North Dakota also received a pair of personal record times from sophomores Nick Lindstrom (Shakopee, Minn.) and Nate Peterson (Horace, N.D.). Lindstrom ran the 3K in 8:42.54, while Peterson recorded a time of 4:19.58 in the mile run.

Junior Matthew Harris (Sidney, Mont.) came through with a strong effort in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 15 feet, 1 inch (4.6 meters). That was also good to tie him for the 10th-best performance in the Big Sky this season.

UND returns to action next Friday at North Dakota State's Thundering Herd Classic.
