PORTLAND, Ore. – On the final day of the program’s first Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the University of North Dakota received several standout performances that included three scorers and one personal record.

Junior thrower Shawn Johnson (Eveleth, Minn.) earned the team’s highest finish of the day, placing sixth in the discus with a mark of 49.73 meters (163’2”). Yesterday, Johnson earned all-conference honors with a third-place effort in the shot put.

UND also received a pair of seventh-place showings on Saturday, including freshman D'Monte Farley (Cottage Grove, Minn.) in the triple jump and junior Matthew Harris (Sidney, Mont.) in the pole vault. Farley, who was eighth in the long jump on Friday, hit a triple jump mark of 13.92 meters (45’8”) this afternoon. Harris, meanwhile, cleared 4.42 meters (14’6”) in the pole vault.

Also of note was Nate Peterson's (So., Horace, N.D.) personal record time of 3 minutes, 55.94 seconds in the 1,500-meters.

Northern Arizona won its second consecutive Big Sky men’s conference title, amassing 143 points. Sacramento State was the runner-up with 136 points and Weber State placed third with 125. North Dakota, in its first year as a Big Sky member, placed 11th.

Notes: Paul Lyons (Sac State) and Diego Estrada (Northern Arizona) shared Men’s Most Valuable Athlete honors, while Sac State’s Jesse Elvrom was named Men’s Outstanding Performer.
