David Primus was elevated to assistant athletics director for marketing & licensing in May 2014 after completing his third season as UND's Director of Marketing & Game Entertainment.
Primus oversees the day-to-day operations of the marketing department including branding, advertising, ticket sales, fan experience and developing comprehensive marketing plans for 21 NCAA Division I teams.
Operations of the marketing department include special events, football tailgating, NoDak Nation, Jr. Champions, student athlete appearances, donation requests, Facebook presence, production & distribution of promotional information, undergraduate student internship program, budget and marketing calendar. Primus also serves as the primary point of contact for campus organizations and departments.
Primus is the primary marketing contact for UND men's hockey and also serves as UND’s on-site administrator for football. During the 2013-14 season, UND set single-game attendance records in volleyball and women's hockey and sold out its first men's basketball game since 2006.
In his new responsibilities leading UND’s licensing operation, Primus will be tasked with brand development, enforcement, and managing relationships with vendors and suppliers. He will also take the lead on management and protection of historical names and marks, including the Dacotah Legacy Collection. Primus is the chairperson of the Merchandise, Signage, Vehicles & Licensing subcommittee of the UND Design Group.
After graduating with honors in 2007 from Wyoming with bachelor's degrees in marketing and finance, Primus spent three years as an account representative & retail buyer with Brown 'N Gold, Inc., an official retailer for University of Wyoming apparel and merchandise. He also served on the “Poke Pride” committee, purposed with developing a city-wide welcoming atmosphere to Cowboy and Cowgirl Athletics fans.
In 2011, Primus earned his master's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame.
Primus began his career as a marketing and promotions intern from 2004-07 while attending the University of Wyoming. He oversaw UW's student fan clubs for men's basketball and football and assisted with in-game entertainment, student attendance initiatives and activating sponsors at sporting events.
