Heavy home slate highlights 2013 football schedule

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Seven home games, including three against 2012 FCS playoff participants, highlight the 2013 North Dakota football schedule announced by athletics director Brian Faison on Monday. In fact, UND will play six of its first seven games at the Alerus Center, including four straight to open the campaign.

Valparaiso will be the first visitor to Grand Forks as the Crusaders will be the season-opening opponent for UND on Thursday, Aug. 29. The following Saturday (Sept. 7) will be the annual Potato Bowl USA Game as South Dakota State will make its first trip to the Alerus Center since the building opened in 2001. The Jackrabbits finished second in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and earned an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs.

For the second straight season, a Big Sky foe will play UND in a non-conference game as Montana will complete a home-and-home series on Sept. 14. UND defeated the Griz 40-34 at home in one of the most exciting games of the 2012 season.

Following a bye week, UND’s Family Weekend event will feature a game with Big Sky regular season co-champion Montana State. The Bobcats head to their renewed border rival for the league opener for both schools on Sept. 28. Montana State reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 FCS playoffs.

UND will finally take to the road in week six of the season when the Green and White travels to Pocatello, Idaho to take on Idaho State (Oct. 5). The Green and White defeated the Bengals 38-35 in Holt Arena during head coach Chris Mussman’s first season in 2008. 

After the road opener in Idaho, UND will have two straight Big Sky home games on the docket. The first of those will be the 2013 Homecoming affair against FCS playoff semifinalist Eastern Washington on Oct. 12. UND will then play host to Sacramento State on Oct. 19. UND defeated the Hornets 35-13 last season in what was the first Big Sky game in program history.

UND will close the campaign with three out of four on the road as the squad pays a visit to Portland State (Oct. 26) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 2) on back-to-back weekends before playing its home finale against Northern Colorado (Nov. 9).  

UND will head to California for the only time during the 2013 season for its regular season finale at UC Davis on Nov. 16.

Season ticket information is also available for the 2013 football season. New season tickets are available for purchase now and current season ticket holders will receive their renewal information in early April with all other ticket information. Renewals are due by May 31st.  

Season tickets are available for $75 or $90 depending on location, and with seven home games, fans can save more than 50 percent off the single-game ticket price by locking those in now. UND staff and faculty can also save an additional 20 percent on season tickets. 

Champions Club members also receive a new benefit for the 2013 UND Football season as the maximum number of seats they can purchase has increased for each level.

Seats in sections 204, 205, 206, and 215 are extremely limited, so reserve early to guarantee seats in those sections. In addition, Section 215 is now a North Dakota Champions Club Century level section. 2012 Season Ticket Holders with seats in section 215 will not be required to pay a Champions Club membership to keep their same seats in section 215 for the 2013 season.
