MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – North Dakota sophomore distance runner Lydia Lutz shattered her personal record in the 10K today, highlighting the opening day of the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational.

Lutz clocked a time of 38 minutes, 18.02 seconds, as the Park Rapids, Minn., native took more than a minute off her previous PR and finished sixth.

The opening day of competition also featured the first four events of the women’s heptathlon, featuring UND’s Ashley Fedie and Darian Hedland. The duo stood out in the high jump finals, tying for third and fifth, respectively.

Fedie cleared 5 feet, 3 ¼ inches, while Hedland cleared 5-02 ¼.

Day two of the three-day meet continues on Friday at Dough Shaw Stadium.
