Tempe, Ariz. - The University of North Dakota softball team ended the final day of the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational with a 6-0 loss to East Carolina.
East Carolina got on the scoreboard early when it took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Pirates advanced the lead to five in the third inning and UND was unable to answer back.
East Carolina scored the final point of the game in the sixth for a final of 6-0.
UND finished the tournament 0-5 overall and is now 2-10 on the season.
"This was always going to be the tough part of our schedule," head coach Eric Oakley said. "We had some positives, but not enough. D Jantzer (Grass Pass, Oreg.) had a solid weekend and a few other bats are starting to come along. We'll build on it."
Facing some of the toughest pitchers in the country, Jantzer concluded the tournament with a .538 average (7-for-13). She added a grand-slam home run in a single game on Thursday against Arizona State before the tournament.
Junior Caralyn Chewning (Willamina, Ore.) led UND with two hits today.
UND's next action will be March 9-16 at The Rebel Games in Kissimee, Fla.
