WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Former North Dakota standout Brett Cameron is taking his punting talents back to his native Canada after signing a professional contract on Wednesday to play for his hometown Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

Cameron will participate in Winnipeg's upcoming training camp and try to have an impact for an organization that saw his father, Bob, star for during a 23-year career.

The younger Cameron was a three-year starter during his time at UND, finishing his tenure tied with the second best career average of 40.6 yards per punt. He had his best season in 2012 when he averaged 42.1 yards per boot as a senior, which was the fourth best single-season average in program history.

Cameron was also standout in the classroom, earning All-Great West Academic honors in 2010 and 2011 along with A-ll Big Sky Academic honors in 2012.

The elder Cameron holds the CFL record for regular season punting yards with 134,301 yards and was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2010. He helped the Blue Bombers to a trio of Grey Cup titles during his career.
