FARGO, N.D. -- Five personal records in the weight throw, all which cracked North Dakota's all-time top-10 list, highlighted the opening day for UND at the Thundering Herd Classic.

Three of the five milestone throws came from freshmen, including Molly Griep's team-leading throw of 51 feet, ¼ inch (15.55 meters). That mark by the Whitewater, Wis., native was the third-best indoor weight throw in UND women's track and field history.

Not far behind were classmates Jayd Eggert (Minot, N.D.) and KeKe Burks (Madison, Wis.), who landed the fourth- and sixth-best weight throws in school history. Eggert recorded a mark of 50 feet 3 ½ inches (15.33 meters), while Burks threw 50 feet, ¾ inches (15.26 meters).

That trio of freshmen placed 6-7-8 in the event.

Griep, Eggert and Burks were joined in the all-time top-10 by sophomores Chantel Urban (Surrey, N.D.) and Samantha Guenther (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.). Urban's throw of 47 feet, 11 ¼ inches (14.61 meters) was the eighth-best in UND history, while Guenther's mark of 46 feet, 2 inches (14.07 meters) ranked 10th all-time.

All five throws were also personal records.

UND also received a fifth-place finish today from Ashley Fedie in the pentathlon. The sophomore from Chanhassen, Minn., finished the event with 2,781 points.

The Thundering Herd Classic wraps up tomorrow, with the action getting underway at noon.
