MINNEAPOLIS-- North Dakota, with a walk-off extra-inning hit in the nightcap, earned a non-conference doubleheader split against Mount Marty (NAIA) Tuesday at the Metrodome. UND fell 7-5 in the opener but rallied for a 6-5 win in nine innings in the series finale.

"We let one slip away in game one, they put up a big inning and we didn't do much offensively to recover," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "We battled back and had a very good win in game two. Patrick Riewer came on and got the win and had four hits."

GAME ONE
Mount Marty (1-3) put up a five-spot in the third inning to take a 5-2 advantage through two-and-a-half. North Dakota (3-1) had scored a pair in the first frame on an RBI double by Zack Trygstad and Taylor Petersen's sacrifice fly.

Jeff Campbell was saddled with the loss, going 6.1 innings, allowing six runs with three punchouts. After the five-run inning, the sophomore righty settled down and squandered just two more hits over the next three innings to keep his team close.

UND scratched across two runs in the sixth on Kris Kwak's run-scoring double and Jacob Threlkeld's sac fly to draw it to 6-4 through six. Threlkeld grounded out with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and the Lancers escaped with the win.

Kwak and Ryan Reese each recorded a pair of hits in the opener.

GAME TWO
North Dakota struck first with a single run in the first inning as Threlkeld tripled and scored on Trygstad's base knock. The Lancers responded with runs in each of the next three innings to eventually re-tie the game at three apiece.

UND had scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning off the benefit of just one hit. Threlkeld started the inning with a single then later came around on an error and Trygstad scored the second run on Tyler Follis' sacrifice fly to right.

UND took the lead in the sixth with two more runs again on just one hit. Riewer's third hit of the game eventually produced another unearned tally as he came in on Campbell's fielder's choice. Mount Marty scored two in the seventh and the game went to extra frames.

In the ninth, Sam Alt led off with a walk and Riewer followed with his fourth hit. With no one down, Kwak singled to score Alt and give the win to UND for its third win in the series.

Riewer was also the hero on the mound, coming on in relief in the fifth inning. He threw five innings, allowing four hits and two runs to earn the win.

North Dakota heads back to the Metrodome next Monday and Wednesday to face St. Cloud State and Mary, respectively.
