Erickson nabs pole vault title on day one at NDSU

FARGO, N.D. – Multiple University of North Dakota student-athletes enjoyed personal-record performances today at day one of North Dakota State’s Thundering Herd Classic.

One of those PRs came in the pole vault, where sophomore Thea Erickson took first place with a mark of 10 feet, 2 inches. The Emerado, N.D., native provided UND with its lone event title of the day. In the same event, teammate Shea MacGregor tied her PR with a third-place leap of 9 feet, 8 inches.

In the mile run, UND placed four runners in the top eight: Erin Wysocki (2nd), Jessica Lynch (4th), Lydia Lutz (5th) and Jami Johnson (8th). Lynch’s time of 5 minutes, 19.28 seconds established a new personal record.

Senior Megan Storstad was the runner-up in the weight throw with a toss of 47 feet, 7 ¼ inches, while teammate Alyssa Lueck hit a PR of 43-09.25 and finished sixth.

Junior Rachel Miesbauer finished third in the 3,000 meters, running a PR time of 11:11.34.

In the 800 meters, teammates Brittany Ungs and Jenna Gillson placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with Gillson establishing a PR of 2:25.33.

The day opened with the women’s pentathlon, where UND junior Ashley Fedie placed sixth among 18 participants with 3,083 points.

The second and final day of Thundering Herd Classic gets underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Shelly Ellig Track and Field Complex.
