MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Sophomore hurler Andrew Thome opened UND's 2013 season with a seven-inning gem as North Dakota defeated Mount Marty, 2-1, Monday afternoon at the Metrodome. Thome threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out nine and walking just a pair in the win.

UND (1-0) got its run in the top of the first when Kris Kwak led-off with a double and came around on an RBI single up the middle from Jeff Campbell. North Dakota would only get three hits in the contest, so Thome had to make it hold up.

After Mount Marty scored in the bottom of the first after a hit-by-pitch, a walk and a throwing error to create an unearned run, Thome then allowed just two more baserunners for the game.

The eventual winning run scored in the sixth when Jacob Threlkeld scored all the way from second on an infield groundout, providing all the offense Thome would need.

He hit the first batter of the seventh and a wild pitch moved him to second, but he got a pair of groundouts and struck out the Lancers' designated hitter for the final out. It marked the fifth career complete game without allowing an earned run for the sophomore righty.

It was the sixth no-hitter in UND history and first since John Shonka's seven-inning, eight strikeout performance over Rockhurst April, 26, 2003 at Kraft Field.

Kwak, Campbell and Patrick Riewer all registered hits in the game one win.
