Growing up, Tate Maris didn't know much about the University of North Dakota. It wasn't until Maris, a Denver, Colo., native, wore a Boston University shirt that sparked a conversation about college hockey with a high school teacher.

Maris fell in love with UND when he toured the campus. Although he wasn't recruited by the hockey team, he decided to attend UND as a student. After one year things changed, as Maris walked onto the program and earned a place on the roster.

UND Sports recently featured Maris, talking about his path to UND, his #thirdstringproblems hashtag on Twitter and more.
