NAPERVILLE, Ill. - North Dakota freshman Andrew Thome (St. Cloud, Minn.) garnered his second Great West Pitcher of the Week honor of the season on Monday after league officials announced their weekly accolades.

Thome earned this honor after tossing the first shutout in UND's Division I history on Friday in the 9-0 victory over Northern Colorado. The right-hander scattered four hits and struck out a career-high seven to post his third complete game of the season.

"This is well-deserved after the way he pitched on Friday night," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "If he continues to pitch like that, this won't be the last time he wins it either.

"We're excited about the way he is progressing. He has put in a lot of hard work this season and it's nice to see that start to pay off for Andrew."

Thome incuded an inning-ending double play in the fifth to escape the Bears' only serious threat after an error extended the inning. He walked only two and faced 31 hitters as he picked up his first win in league play.

The right-hander earned his first GWC weekly honor of the season on April 2 after limiting North Dakota State to an unearned run in a 1-0 loss to the Bison.

UND, who has won five of its last seven, continues its 15-game homestand with a four-game GWC series against New York Institute of Technology on Friday at 3 p.m.
