GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota men's basketball head coach Brian Jones announced the signing of his second junior college forward during the spring on Tuesday as Alonzo Traylor put his signature on a National Letter of Intent to play for the Fighting Sioux beginning in the 2012-13 season.

Traylor will have two seasons to play at UND after spending his first two years as a collegian at Iowa Western Community College.

"We are excited to welcome Alonzo into our basketball family here at the University of North Dakota," Jones said. "He is a very versatile player, who can play the power forward and center positions. He has good size and athleticism with a skill set that will be a nice fit for the offensive system we run."

As a sophomore at IWCC, Traylor averaged 14.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg en route to earning All-Region XI second team honors. He reached double figures in 29 of 33 games and helped the Reveirs post a 24-9 record and earn a berth in the Region XI Championship game.

Traylor scored a career-high 26 points on 10-for-10 shooting from the floor during his freshman season at IWCC. He averaged 10.6 ppg and 5.9 rpg in his first season with head coach Jim Morris.

The Minneapolis native prepped at South High School for head coach Joe Hyser. As a senior, he averaged 17.0 ppg and 9.9 rpg and posted 13 double-doubles. He was named All-City following both his junior and senior seasons. Traylor joins fellow JUCO forward Ryan Salmonson as spring signees for Jones. Salmonson is a 6-foot-10 forward originally from Auburn, Calif.

"With the loss of Patrick Mitchell and Mike Mathison, we feel that we've answered some needs heading into our first season in the Big Sky conference with the additions of Alonzo and Ryan Salmonson.  Both these young men coupled with our returning front line players give us quality depth at the frontline positions."

The Fighting Sioux will begin their first season in the Big Sky Conference in 2012-13 after winning back-to-back Great West Conference Tournament titles and playing in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
