UND puts 40 on GWC Academic All-Conference squad

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota placed 40 student-athletes on the 2011-12 Great West Conference Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced this week by the league office.

The Winter/Spring Team includes student-athletes from the sports of baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's golf, women's tennis and softball. Honorees must possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and must have participated in at least 50 percent of their respective team's contests. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

UND's sport-by-sport breakdown included 11 from women's indoor/outdoor track and field, six from softball, five from women's basketball, five men's indoor/outdoor track and field, three from women's golf, two from women's tennis, two from men's indoor track and field, two from women's indoor track and field, two from baseball and one each from men's and women's outdoor track and field.

With UND's 40 selections, a school-record 112 student-athletes earned all-conference honors from the GWC, Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) in 2011-12.

UND's 40 GWC Winter/Spring honorees were second only to Utah Valley's 58. UND and UVU were the only schools to place more than 28 student-athletes on the Winter/Spring Team.
