HOUSTON, Texas - Three personal records and three runner-up performances have North Dakota in second place after the opening day at the 2012 Great West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Megan Storstad (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.) and seniors Christine Weinreich (Pismo Beach, Calif.) and Lindsay Anderson (Leeds, N.D.) provided the runner-up efforts, while Storstad (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.), Chantel Urban (Fr., Surrey, N.D.) and Megan Gray (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) accounted for the PRs.

Storstad and Urban each recorded their PRs in the javelin, with respective marks of 42.07 meters (138 feet) and 36.07 meters (118 feet, 4 inches). Storstad placed second in the event, while Urban took fifth.

Weinreich finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.35 meters, with Storstad right behind in third place with a toss of 48.33 meters.

Anderson was the runner-up in the 10K race, logging a time of 38 minutes, 6.24 seconds.
Gray, meanwhile, used a personal record in the high jump to grab hold of third place in the heptathlon after the first day of events. The junior from St. Cloud, Minn., cleared 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3 ¾ inches) to take runner-up honors in the high jump. She also placed second in the 200-meters (27.26 seconds), third in the 100-meters (15.75 seconds) and seventh in the shot put (7.93 meters).

The Sioux have 34 points through day one, a total topped only by three-time defending champion Utah Valley's 47 points.

Teammate Ashley Fedie (Fr., Chanhassen, Minn.) sits in seventh place in the heptathlon after placing fourth in the high jump, sixth in the shot put, and eighth in both the 100- and 200-meters.

"We're off to a great start," said UND head coach Kevin Galbraith. "The throwers started really well."

The 2012 GWC Outdoor Championship continues Friday and Saturday at Turner Stadium.
