GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Incoming head coach Travis Brewster announced today that junior Nicole Smart (Ada, Minn.) and sophomore Katie Houdek (Grafton, N.D.) have been selected to captain the North Dakota women's basketball team through the summer months.

"This duo has been raising the standard in the classroom, weight room and in the gym," Brewster said. "They know the UND women's basketball way is 'Earn what you get!'"

This is the first stint at captain for Houdek while Smart captained the team last season along with seniors Charnay Mothershed (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Charnise Mothershed (Phoenix, Ariz.).

"This season will be a part of many firsts for the program and it will be exciting," Brewster said. "I am truly excited about this team and to see all their hard work for the upcoming season."

Official captains for the 2012-13 season will be announced when the team begins practice in the fall.
