FARGO, N.D. -- A pair of senior runners won their respective event titles today to lead the Fighting Sioux at North Dakota State.
Senior Emily Emerson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) won the 800-meters, clocking a time of 2:15.35 for a 4-second win over runner-up Laura Lawton of South Dakota State.
Teammates Kahla Erickson (So., Grand Rapids, Minn.), Savana Weller (So., Sauk Centre, Minn.) and Victoria Lutz (So., Park Rapids, Minn.) placed 3-4-5, respectively, in the event.
Emerson wasn't the only Sioux senior to capture an event title. Lindsay Anderson (Leeds, N.D.) placed first in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:30.35.
UND split its duals against North Dakota State and South Dakota State, defeating SDSU 78-62 and falling 83-61 to host NDSU.
The Sioux also recorded several other notable finishes. Sophomore Jenna Gillson was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native recorded a time of 1:02.93.
Junior thrower Megan Storstad (Grand Forks, N.D.) took second in the javelin with a throw of 125 feet, 2 inches.
Another thrower, senior Christine Weinreich (Pismo Beach, Calif.) earned a pair of top-4 finishes, placing third in the discus (152-04) and fourth in the shot put (42-09.75).
UND now turns its focus to the Great West Conference Outdoor Championship, scheduled for May 10-12 in Houston.
