Woodbury's Matt Koken added to 2012-13 swim roster

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head men's swimming and diving coach Steve Parsons announced today that Matt Koken has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Fighting Sioux for the 2012-13 season.

A senior from East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minn., Koken is a four-year letterwinner in swimming and a three-time all-conference honoree (2009, 2010, 2012). He earned all-state honors in 2010 (200 medley relay, 200 free, 100 fly) and in 2012 (200 medley relay, 200 free, 100 fly, 400 free relay), and was a 200 free section champion in 2009 and a 2012 section champion in both the  200 free and the 100 fly. A member of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-America Team, Koken was voted the team's MVP following both his freshman and senior season, and was voted Most Dedicated at a sophomore.

"Matt is a great pickup for our men's team," Parsons said. "He has everything we look for in a student-athlete: great academics, strong athletic potential and a great personality.  We'll look for Matt help add depth to our mid-distance free and butterfly events as he has great potential and will definitely challenge our upper-classmen in the fall. We are extremely happy to have Matt on the team."
