Women's hockey announces 2011-12 team awards

GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team recently held their annual awards banquet where junior Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) received the Most Valuable Player Awards, highlighting UND's 2011-12 team awards that were voted upon by the team.

A Patty Kazmaier Award Top-3 Finalist and American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America First Team honoree, both firsts in program history, Lamoureux captained the Fighting Sioux to an overall 22-12-3 record and its first NCAA postseason berth in program history.

Lamoureux was tied for the NCAA lead in points (82) while leading the nation in points per game (2.22) and assists per game (1.30), setting new UND single-season records for points, goals and assists. She also received the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Most Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year, was the WCHA's Scoring Champion, All-WCHA First Team selection and All-USCHO First Team recipient.

Defensive Player of the Year: Monique Lamoureux-Kolls - Grand Forks, N.D.

  • AHCA All-America Second Team (defenseman)
  • All-USCHO First Team (defenseman)
  • All-WCHA Second Team (defenseman)
  • Finished her junior campaign sixth in the nation in points, led all defensemen
  • Had 26 goals, 45 assists and 71 points

Rookie of the Year: Michelle Karvinen - Rodovre, Denmark

  • WCHA Rookie of the Year
  • All-USCHO Rookie Team
  • All-WCHA Third Team and Rookie Team
  • Highest-scoring rookie in the nation
  • More than doubled UND's rookie scoring record, eclipsing it by 39 points
  • Tied for eighth in the nation in points
  • Had 24 goals, 37 assists and 61 points

Most Dedicated Player: Jorid Dagfinrud - Sarpsborg, Norway

  • Named to second straight All-WCHA Academic Team
  • Set school record with 2.04 goals against average
  • Tied school record with four shutouts
  • Went 6-4-1 with a .922 save percentage

Most Improved Player: Michelle Bonapace-Potvin - Royn-Noranda, Quebec

  • All-WCHA Academic Team
  • Played in two games with a perfect 1.00 save percentage
