FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota tuned up for next week's Great West Conference Championship with several outstanding performances today in a dual against North Dakota State.
While the Sioux fell 88-60 to the host Bison, UND student-athletes claimed three event titles and three runner-up efforts.
UND boasted the top two finishers in the 1,500-meters, with senior Tyler Rose (Brainerd, Minn.) and freshman Nick Lindstrom (Shakopee, Minn.) placing first and second, respectively. Rose's recorded a time of 4:00.49, while Lindstrom finished in 4:02.33.
Sophomore Jesse Fenstermacher (Hibbing, Minn.) won the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 47.82 seconds.
Fellow sophomore Shawn Johnson (Eveleth, Minn.) won the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 3 1/2 inches. He was also the runner-up in the discus, recording a mark of 159-01.
Freshman Ryan Andert was the runner-up in the high jump, with the Eagan, Minn., native clearing 6 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
The Sioux will now prepare for the GWC Championship May 10-12 in Houston.
