VIERUMAKI, Finland --- Although locker-room bragging rights will go to Canada's Halli Krzyzaniak, all four recruits set to join UND for the 2013-14 season had strong performances for their respective teams in the 2013 Under-18 Women's World Championship.
Canada defeated the United States 2-1 in overtime, including scoring the game-tying goal with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, to claim the gold medal.
Kryzyzaniak was voted the tournament's best defensive player and was tied for the lead in points by a defenseman (2-5-7). She also helped lead Canada to the gold medal in 2012.
UND U.S. recruits Gracen Hirschy, Amy Menke and Lexi Shaw had to settle for the silver medal although putting up tournament leading numbers.
Hirschy was eighth in points by a defenseman (0-3-3), Menke finished third in scoring (4-5-9) and Shaw went 2-0-0 with two shutouts in net.
