GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota women’s golf coach Natalie Martinson announced the addition of Laura Podolak to her program on Friday.

Podolak won back-to-back North Dakota Class B state medalist honors en route to leading her Kindred High School squad to consecutive team titles in 2012 and 2013. Podolak shot a career-low even-par 72 in her final round as a junior to claim her first individual state title.

“We are thrilled to bring a local player of Laura’s caliber into our program,” Martinson said. “She excelled at a number of different sports during her prep career and we’re excited that she chose to continue her golf career her at UND.

Laura was able to defend her state title just over a week ago and being able to achieve that feat under pressure shows the type of competitor we are adding to our team. She should be able to contribute to our lineup right away.”

Podolak (pronounced Po-duh-lack) was a three-sport athlete at Kindred High School where she earned six letters in golf, four in volleyball and three more in basketball. She helped lead Kindred to the Class B state title in volleyball as an outside hitter and was named North Dakota’s Senior Athlete of the Year in golf.

Podolak also has strong family ties to the University. Her sister Kate played one season for Martinson in 2010-11 and her uncle, Doug, also golfed collegiately at UND. Her father, Mike, played collegiately at Southern Methodist University and was Laura’s high school coach at Kindred.
