GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster rounded out his staff today, announcing the hiring of Drew Woods as assistant coach and the retention of Val Sussex (formerly Sannes) as director of basketball operations.

Brewster's staff also includes assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Linda Sayavongchanh (pronounced sy-uh-vōng-chun) and assistant coach Tom Dryburgh.

Woods comes to UND after having spent the previous six seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Concordia University, St. Paul. Woods helped guide the Golden Bears to four NCAA Division II Tournament berths, four 20-win seasons, and three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships.

"I am extremely excited to hire Drew and welcome his family to the University of North Dakota," said Brewster. "With his expertise in recruiting in the Twin Cities, as well as throughout the United States, Drew has proven his abilities to attract top-notch student-athletes. Drew is an excellent person and an superb teacher who will help our players succeed on and off the court. He has been a proven winner wherever he has been."

Prior to CU, Woods served as an assistant coach at Minneapolis Community and Technical College in 2005-06. While at MCTC, the Marauders won the Southern Division and were MCCC State Tournament runner-up and Region 13 runner-up. Woods received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2001 from Concordia, St. Paul.

"I am thrilled to be a part of Coach Brewster's staff," said Woods, a native of Detroit. "I believe he has a great vision for North Dakota basketball. I am very excited and eager to get going and teach that style and be a part of the North Dakota family."

Sussex returns for her second season as UND's director of basketball operations. A native of Grand Forks, N.D., Sannes played for UND from 2004-08 and served as a team captain during the 2007-08 season. After graduating from UND in 2008 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in coaching, Sannes was as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

"Val has taken it upon herself to learn a different role as an administrator in our program, which is vital to our success," said Brewster. "Her years of experience as a coach and student-athlete here at UND is a must-have in our program. I am very excited to continue our long-standing relationship of 10-plus years. Our student-athletes will gain a wealth of knowledge from Val, who epitomizes the UND way."

"I am very excited for the opportunity to be a part of Coach Brewster's staff," said Sussex. "He is a perfect fit to carry on the tradition of North Dakota basketball and I am honored to be a part of it."
