Grand Forks, N.D. - University of North Dakota women's hockey head coach Brian Idalski announced today the addition of Kayla Gardner, Gracen Hirschy, Halli Krzyaniak, Lisa Marvin, Amy Menke and Lexi Shaw to play for UND beginning in 2012-13.

"I am really excited about this class as each one of those kids has the opportunity to be an impact player here," head coach Brian Idalski said. "It definitely speaks to the strides our program has made with the quality of impact players that we are attracting."

Kayla Gardner - Warroad, Minn.

Gardner is in her senior season serving as captain of the Warroad Warriors where she is averaging 3.25 points and has seven goals in her first four games.

Helping Warroad to back-to-back-to-back state tournament appearances and section championships from 2010-12, Gardner received 2011 and 2012 Minnesota State All-Tournament Team honors as the Warriors earned a state championship in 2010 and 2011 and third-place finish in 2012. She was also named to the 2011-12 MGHCA All-State Team.

A 5-foot 9-inch left-handed forward, Gardner is a member of the 2011-12 National Honor Society and plans to major in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Vince and Donna Gardner.

Idalski said: "Kayla is extremely skilled and a smooth player that moves the puck, skates well and has the ability to finish. I am very excited about her and the potential she has coming in."

Gracen Hirschy - Fort Wayne, Ind.

Hirschy competed for the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team this past August in its three-game series against Canada scoring one goal. She was also invited to the USA Hockey Women's National Festival in 2011 as one of the top U18 players in the country.

Currently competing for Team Pittsburgh U19, Hirschy has played hockey for the past 13 years and helped lead her U15 team to USA Hockey national championship in 2010.

A 5-foot 9-inch left-handed defenseman, she is the daughter of Olen Hirschy and Dawn Cummings.

Idalski said: "Gracen coming from Culver and playing for Team Pittsburg is more of an offensive-defenseman. Skates extremely well, hands are very good and has a good shot. She is a U18 player for the U.S. and will definitely help bolster our d-core."

Halli Krzyzaniak - Neepawa, Manitoba

Krzyzaniak competed for the Canada Women's National Under-18 Team in each of 2011 and 2012 in its three-game series against the U.S. where she has collected one goal and two assists. She also competed for Canada in the 2012 IIHF U18 World Championship that won the gold medal where she had one assist with a +7 plus/minus rating.

Currently competes for the Pursuit of Excellence and played for Manitoba in the National Women's Under-18 Championship where she was named the top defenseman and most valuable player.

A 5-foot- 9-inch right-handed defenseman, she is the daughter of Jim and Kelly Krzyzaniak.

Idalski said: "Halli is a two-time Canadian U18 player from the Pursuit of Excellence who has a chance to step in and be a huge impact player for us. Defensively she is outstanding and we really feel she has and offensive side to her game that she can come in and quarterback our power play. Very excited to have her and she is probably one of the best defensive recruits we have ever gotten."

Lisa Marvin - Warroad, Minn.

Marvin is in her senior season with the Warroad Warriors she is averaging 4.25 points and has four goals and 17 points in her first four games.

Helping Warroad to back-to-back-to-back state tournament appearances and section championships from 2010-12, Marvin received 2011 and 2012 Minnesota State All-Tournament Team honors as the Warriors earned a state championship in 2010 and 2011 and third-place finish in 2012 where she has set a tournament record for career points with 34. She was also named to the 2011-12 MGHCA All-State Team.

A 5-foot 8-inch forward, she is the daughter of David and Kallie Marvin and sister of current UND forward Layla Marvin.

Idalski said: "Lisa is another state champion player from Warroad that is strong up the middle. She sees the ice well, moves the puck and definitely has a gritty side to her game that we really like."

Amy Menke - Shakopee, Minn.

Menke competed for the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team this past August in its three-game series against Canada scoring one goal.

Currently competes for the Shakopee Sabers where she is averaging 2.67 points per game with 10 goals and 16 points in six games played. Serving as the team's captain in 2011 and 2012, she was also named the most valuable player and a 2012 All-State honorable mention after producing 43 goals last season.

A 5-foot 6-inch forward, she is the daughter of Mark and Renee Menke.

Idalski said: "Amy coming from Shakopee is extremely fast. She skates extremely well and has a very good shot. She has worked very hard at having a complete game the way she back-checks and has taken some huge strides in the last year and we are really excited about her earning herself a spot on the U18 team as well.

Lexi Shaw - Troy, Mich.

Shaw competed for the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team this past August in its three-game series against Canada, was an invitee to the 2012 USA Hockey's Warren Strelow National Team Goaltending Camp and played in the 2011 USA Hockey Girls Select 16/17 All-Star Game.

Currently competes for Honeybaked (Mich.) where she has gone 29-2-0 with 17 shutouts with a 0.79 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. She helped lead Honeybaked to a national championship in 2011.

A 5-foot 7-inch goaltender, she is the daughter of Doug and Pam Shaw.

Idalski said: "Lexi is going to come in and give us a good goaltending tandem with Shelby Amsley-Benzie. She is going to push for playing time and is also a U.S. U18 kid from Honeybaked in Detroit.
