GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota women's soccer team started the season playing over 2 ½ games without a goal, but tallied four in the second half Friday afternoon against Minnesota, Crookston to earn its first win of the season in its home opener at Bronson Field.

UND improves to 1-2 on the season and will look to remain in the win column as it heads back on the road for a nonconference match against the Summit League's South Dakota on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.

Freshman Taryn MacMillan (Rosemount, Minn.) found the back of the net just past the halfway break in the 49th minute to spark the offensive surge.

Sophomore Megan Anderson (Rapid City, S.D.) and senior Rhaya Ballon (Rogers, Minn.) opened up the game with back-to-back goals only 47-seconds apart, both coming in the 59th minute.

Freshman Jessica Johnson (Tempe, Ariz.) added to the lead late in the second half with her first collegiate goal in the 85th minute.

North Dakota outshot UMC 21-1 in the game including 11-0 in the first half although failing to score. UND had the edge in corner kicks (10-1) as well.

UND goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen (Pierre, S.D.) was barely tested in the game, making just one save, but collected her first shutout win of the year and fifth of her young career.

Golden Eagle netminder Drew Underdahl made seven saves in the losing effort.
