GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota football fans will notice new and exciting improvements in the parking lot at the Alerus Center for the upcoming 2012 season. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and take in the atmosphere of the enhanced UND Football Gameday experience. The new “Tailgate Village” is the spot to be for pre-game food, fun and entertainment for all ages.

New this year, Tailgate Village provides a great place for all UND fans to hang out prior to the game.  Located at the front of the parking lot, the improved tailgate spot features live music, inflatable games in the Jr. Champions Kid Zone as well as food and merchandise vendors.

This year’s food vendors include Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, the Ground Round and Deek’s Pizza.  Merchandise will be available from Green & White Gear (GWGear.com). Tailgate Village opens two and a half hours before kickoff and is sponsored by the Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

With increased interest, fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid parking delays and full parking lots.  Champions Club members and suite holders can access their parking lot via Alerus Drive.  Private Tailgating and student parking can be accessed from South Drive.  Limited season-long tailgating spots do remain for $50/each and can be purchased no later than Wednesday by calling the Alerus Center at 701.792.1200.

Those who wish to tailgate, but have not purchased a season tailgating pass may do so on game day for $15/spot.  General parking is available at any of the three main entrances for $5.

A free shuttle from UND operates starting three hours prior to kick off until after the game.  Shuttle pickup at UND is on University Ave. outside Wilkerson Hall.  Drop-off is on the south side of the student tailgating lot and post-game pickup is on the east side of the Alerus Center (shuttle drops back at Wilkerson Hall).  Fans using this option must follow all UND parking lot rules.

This Thursday also marks both Military Appreciation and Welcome Back Student events.  The Military Appreciation event pre-game will take place in the Alerus Center Ballroom.  The Welcome Back Students event will take place on the south side of the student tailgating lot.
