GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota Director of Athletics Brian Faison announced today the hiring of Kyle Doperalski as associate athletics director for external operations. Doperalski will assume his duties on Sept. 17 and replaces Sean Johnson, who was named athletics director at Angelo State University in June.

Doperalski will oversee external communications, broadcast properties and marketing for UND Athletics. He will work with the athletics director to secure media contracts, including television and radio rights. In addition, Doperalski will seek out new media opportunities and work with University Relations on public relations and marketing efforts.

Doperalski comes to UND from New Mexico State University, where he served as a broadcast consultant and managed the Aggie Sports Radio Network. While at NMSU, Doperalski also created, developed and implemented the television network "Aggie Vision," which can be seen in more than 8 million homes and has generated over $1 million in new revenue for NMSU Athletics.

"Kyle brings a unique set of broadcast work experience and management skills to this critical position for the athletics department," Faison said. "His experience in developing the Aggie Vision television network at New Mexico State and in handling day-to-day operations from production to affiliate relations for News New Mexico will be a tremendous asset for UND Athletics."

"I'm impressed by all of the exciting things going on with UND Athletics, such as the completion of the reclassification process, entrance into the Big Sky Conference and the new UND Athletics Complex announcement," Doperalski said. "Many teams won conference championships last year. We certainly have momentum. I'm inspired by the level of professionalism and pride exhibited by everyone. I look forward to working with the staff, coaches, alumni and fans to continue to build exposure for UND Athletics."

Along with his work at NMSU, Doperalski was a partner in News New Mexico, LLC, a broadcast production company that originates and aggregates content relating specifically to New Mexicans and distributes it statewide to New Mexico radio stations. As executive producer, Doperalski oversaw day-to-day operations including production, staff, affiliate relations, marketing, technology, company growth, new content and sports coverage. He increased affiliate numbers by 1,500 percent and products by 500 percent. Largely due to his work at News New Mexico, Doperalski was named a 2012 New Mexico Sports Executive of the Year by Rivals.com.

Doperalski arrived in Las Cruces in 2006 from Lincoln, Neb., where he worked in a variety of roles for KLMS 1480 Lincoln's ESPN radio affiliate, the Pinnacle Sports Network (now Husker Sports Network) and Channel 21 Sports. A 2005 graduate of the University of Nebraska, Doperalski was an All-Big 12 performer in track and field while the Huskers claimed four Big 12 championships during his collegiate years. As an undergraduate, Doperalski was awarded two national top five Citations for Excellence in Publications from CoSIDA for his work in the Nebraska Sports Information Office.

In 2011, Doperalski earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois in recreation, sport and tourism with an emphasis in sport management. Doperalski's family includes his wife, Elizabeth, and their son, Preston.
