|Position:||Associate Athletics Director, External Operations|
Kyle Doperalski joined UND Athletics in 2012 as associate athletic director for external operations. He oversees the offices of media relations, marketing, broadcast properties, video production, sponsorships and UND’s licensing program. Doperalski is also responsible for football scheduling, the spirit squads, men’s and women’s track and field programs, game management, trade accounts, courtesy car program, and assists with the monthly Fargo Fan Luncheons.
Expanding media coverage and content has proved to be one of Doperalski’s stamps on the department. In his first year Doperalski worked with Midco Sports Network and FOX College Sports to arrange a four-year agreement ensuring national exposure for several sports. Doperalski led the charge on creating UND’s third-tier television package by creating a unit to produce live events with university students and staff. The third-tier volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball games are televised on FOX Sports North and FOX College Sports, doubling or tripling the regional and national exposure for those programs. UND baseball games have been welcomed back on the radio airwaves for the first time in over 20 years and away volleyball radio broadcasts begun under his leadership. Doperalski serves as radio and television talent when needed and his work has been featured on FOX Sports Arizona, FOX Sports North, Altitude Sports and Entertainment, ESPN3 and others.
Revenue generation is another hallmark Doperalski has helped foster. UND Athletics set a total ticket revenue record in 2013-2014 and again in 2014-2015, surpassing four million dollars each year for the first two times in history. Sponsorship revenue has increased by 350 percent since his arrival at UND. Under Doperalski’s watch, an outbound ticket sales team began in the spring of 2015. The marketing department’s work has been nationally recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
Doperalski served as tournament director for the 2014 Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament and 2015 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Faceoff. He also played a key role in UND’s successful bid for the 2015 NCAA Hockey West Regional at SCHEELS Arena in Fargo and served as tournament director for that event. The 2017 NCAA Hockey West Regional bid for the same event at the same location was awarded and Doperalski will oversee that event as well.
Doperalski came to UND from New Mexico State University where he created, developed and implemented the television network "Aggie Vision," which can be seen in more than 8 million homes and played a critical role in the football program moving from independence to the Sun Belt Conference. In 2008 Doperalski was recognized as the top national volleyball broadcaster by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in the annual Grant Berger Media Awards.
With private sector experience, Doperalski was a partner in and served as executive producer of News New Mexico, LLC, a broadcast production company that originated and aggregated content relating specifically to New Mexicans and distributed it statewide to New Mexico radio stations. He increased affiliate numbers by 1,500 percent and products by 500 percent. He was named a 2012 New Mexico Sports Executive of the Year by Rivals.com.
Doperalski arrived in Las Cruces in 2006 from Lincoln, Neb., where he worked in a variety of roles for KLMS 1480 Lincoln's ESPN radio affiliate, the Pinnacle Sports Network (now Husker Sports Network) and Channel 21 Sports.
A 2005 graduate of the University of Nebraska, Doperalski was an All-Big 12 performer in track and field while the Huskers claimed four Big 12 championships during his collegiate years. As an undergraduate, Doperalski was awarded two national top five Citations for Excellence in Publications from CoSIDA for his work in the Nebraska Sports Information Office.
Active in the Grand Forks community, Doperalski sits on the advisory board for the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals.
In 2011, Doperalski earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois in recreation, sport and tourism with an emphasis in sport management.
Doperalski's family includes his wife, Elizabeth, their son, Preston and daughter, Kate.
