GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team bounced back from a disappointing season-opening loss with a dominating 4-1 win over Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday afternoon at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Freshman Leah Jensen (East Grand Forks, N.D.) and seniors Megan Gilbert (Andover, Minn.), Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Monique Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) each scored for North Dakota.

North Dakota improves to 1-1 while the Mavericks drop to 1-2-1 on the year.

Jensen collected her first collegiate goal with the game's first score only 3:46 into the opening frame. She would go on to add a pair of assists for a game-high three points.

North Dakota's penalty-kill was tested early as sophomore Andrea Dalen (Honefoss, Norway) received a five-minute major and game misconduct for checking from behind.

UND had a 8-1 advantage in shots going into the lengthy Maverick power play and held them to three shots during the man-advantage.

Gilbert would add to the lead scoring her eventual first game-winner to give UND a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

On the goal, freshman Layla Marvin (Warroad, Minn.) tallied the secondary assist for her first collegiate point on her first shift of the game.

A focal point for UND coming into the game, both of UND's first period goals came off rebounds and winning battles in front of the net.

Held to only 18 shots on goal in the season-opener, UND had 14 in the opening frame while holding the Mavericks to five.

Going 0-for-3 the day before, UND's power play finally clicked on its second attempt today. Jocelyne Lamoureux blasted a slapshot past MSU goaltender Danielle Butters, at 3:03 of the second period.

Monique Lamoureux scored UND's second power-play goal and her first goal of the season to open a 4-0 lead at 14:18 of the third period. UND would finish 2-for-6 on the man-advantage.

UND netminder Shelby Amsley-Benzie (Warroad, Minn.) collected her first collegiate win allowing one goal while making 19 saves. Amsley-Benzie flirted with a shutout for the second consecutive game, but MSU's Tracy McCann scored on the power play with under three minutes remaining in regulation.

Freshman Sam LaShomb (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) collected assists on both power-play goals for her first two collegiate points.

UND outshot the Mavericks 41-20 in the game and will look to carry the momentum into next weekend's first road trip to take on Ohio State in WCHA action.
