Green defeats White in annual pre-season scrimmage

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The Green squad defeated the White team in the annual Green/White intra-squad scrimmage Friday night at the Hyslop pool.

Highlights included Veronica Medon being a part of five winning events, three individual (200 free, 200 fly, 100 back) and two relays (200 medley relay and 400 free relay). Freshman Courtney Funk was part of the same two winning relays and also won the 50 freestyle. Kelsey Richels won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. Other winners included: Ali Church (1000 free), Kara Fisher (100 back), Allison Tonsager (100 breast), Madeline Smith (200 fly), Cassie Walth (100 free) and Camile Merwin (200 breast).

Adam Gannon won the 100 free and 100 fly in addition to the White team's 200 medley relay win. Frosh Aaron Chanas-LaRue took both distance swims, winning the 500 and 1000 freestyle events handily. Other winners included: Matt Koken (100 fly & 200 free), Preston Youngdahl (100 back), Austin Smith (100 & 200 breast), Zak Gosney (50 free), Daniel Jacobson (200 back) and Wesley Schultz (200 IM).

UND officially opens the 2012-13 season next weekend, hosting Nebraska (women only) and St. Cloud State for a pair of separate two-day duals with each team. Friday's action begins at 6:00 p.m. with Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyslop pool.
