COLUMBUS, Ohio. --- The No. 6 University of North Dakota women's hockey team handed No. 10 Ohio State its first loss of the season Saturday with a 2-0 win at the OSU Ice Rink.

North Dakota improves to 2-2-0 (2-2-0 WCHA) while the Buckeyes drop to 5-1-0 and 3-1-0 in league play.

The Buckeyes entered the game looking for its 200th win and on a program best five-game winning streak to open the season, tying their record of a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) last season. OSU has made it a constant of starting strong in the previous few years as it started 4-0-0 in 2010-11 as well.

UND entered the game angry with its disappointing start to the year and looked to bounce back from yesterday's loss and jump on the Buckeyes early.

OSU goaltender Chelsea Knapp was the story of the first period. In about as dominating of an opening stanza for one team that could end only leading by one goal, North Dakota outshot the Buckeyes 20-4 but managed only a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

Senior Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) was the only UND skater to beat Knapp in the first 20 minutes with a slapshot below Knapp's blocker. The goal came on a 4-on-3 UND power play.

Making her first start of the year, senior Jorid Dagfinrud (Sarpsborg, Norway) was only forced to make four saves in the period, which all came on OSU power plays, as North Dakota controlled play when skating five-on-five.

The Buckeyes didn't claim their first shot on goal until already trailing 1-0 and had given up 12 shots.

Maybe feeling it weathered the early storm, OSU came out with a little more jump after the intermission which went scoreless until late in the third period in a much more gritty game.

Lamoureux sealed the game with an unassisted empty-netter with 40 seconds left in regulation for her second goal of the game and team-leading fourth of the season.

In its most complete game played to this point in the season, UND finished the game with a 36-12 advantage in shots including holding the Buckeyes to only two in the third period.

Dagfinrud closed out her eighth-career shutout with 12 saves and UND became the first team to hold OSU under three goals this season.

North Dakota returns to action at the Ralph Engelstad Arena next Friday (Oct. 19) against St. Cloud State at 7:07 p.m.
