UND improves after day two in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The North Dakota women's golf team moved up a spot after trimming seven strokes off its opening-round score in the second day action at the LPGA Xavier International. The trio of senior Robin Hutchinson (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), freshman Abbie Mozzetti (Hugo, Minn.) and senior Shantel Montgomery (Minot, N.D.) each carded an 86 (+14) to pace the squad on Saturday at the par-72, 6,178-yard layout.

Hutchinson and sophomore Amanda Fairweather (Maple Valley, Wash.), who carded an 89 (+17) are both tied for 57th overall after 36-hole totals of 172 (+28), while the team stands 13th in the 14-team field.

The battle for the top two positions is separated by only two strokes as Florida Gulf Coast (618, +42) continues to lead the competition followed by Old Dominion (620, +44). The next four teams in the race for the top spot are separated by only four strokes, but are eight strokes behind the Monarchs in second place.

The final round of the three-day event will be played on Sunday.
