ABOUT MINNESOTA: The top-rated Golden Gophers swept Ohio State last weekend to extend their winning streak to 16 games, dating back to last year. This weekend will mark UM's first WCHA road trip of the season.
Last weekend, senior captain Megan Bozek surpassed the 100-point mark and became only the fourth defensemen in Minnesota history to do so.
Senior goaltender Noora Raty matched the Minnesota record for career wins at 83.
Minnesota has outscored its opponents 55-3 through eight games.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: UM leads the all-time series 33-5-0. North Dakota and the Gophers have split their last 10 games and its last three regular-season series. UND was the last of the two teams to sweep a series, coming in the first half off the 2010-11 season. UM defeated UND twice in elimination games last year on its way to both the WCHA Final Face-Off championship and the national championship. UND was the only team in the nation to shutout the Gophers and defeat them twice during their national championship campaign.
LAST ACTION: North Dakota picked up its first series sweep of the season last weekend, grinding out 3-1 and 1-0 wins at the Ralph Engelstad Arena over St. Cloud State. The win on Saturday gave UND 10 straight against the Huskies.
Jocelyne Lamoureux led the way offensively, scoring three goals on the weekend, while Jorid Dagfinrud allowed just one goal to pick up two wins in net.
Lamoureux scored the game's first goal on Friday at 8:26 of the first period. The Huskies evened the game in the second period on the power play, before Lamoureux tallied her second of the game on the man-advantage for the eventual game-winner only 46 seconds into the third. Becca Kohler would conclude the game's scoring at the 15:44 mark of the final stanza. UND outshot the Huskies 29-16.
Lamoureux scored the lone goal of Saturday's competition and Dagfinrud stopped all 19 shots faced to lead UND to a 1-0 win. Lamoureux's team-leading eighth goal of the season came at 9:12 of the middle frame. UND worked its way to 36-19 advantage in shots.
POLL POSITION: UND is ranked No. 8 in both the USCHO.com and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
GREAT START: Senior Jorid Dagfinrud enters the game leading the nation in goals against aver (0.30) and save percentage (.981). She is 3-0-0 and allowed just one goal in 199:00 minutes in the cage.
REMEMBER YOUR FIRST: Freshman Becca Kohler scored her first collegiate goal in last weekend's 3-1 win over St. Cloud State. Redshirt freshman Leah Jensen and true freshman Tanja Eisenschmid have also collected their first collegiate goals already this season. Jensen's came in UND's 4-1 win over MSU while Eisenschmid tallied her goal in last weekend's 5-3 loss to OSU.
VS. THE (POLLED) BEST: Since the 2009-10 season, UND has only faced the top-ranked team in the nation four times and has split each series. It last came in 2010 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena against Minnesota Duluth. On Oct. 8, UND was shutout 4-0, which is also the last time it was shutout at home. The team responded with only its second win in program history over a top-ranked team in the series finale, 4-2. North Dakota's first win over a top-ranked team came at Wisconsin on Oct. 2, 2009, as Jorid Dagfinrud stopped all 29 shots faced to backstop UND to a 2-0 win. Both came against the defending national champion and the win over Wisconsin came in the season-opener on the night it hung its national championship banner.
A CLEAR STEP: North Dakota and Megan Gilbert were awarded the team's first penalty shot in the series-opener against St. Cloud State since Jan. 25, 2008.
