GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota freshman Aaron Chanas-LaRue (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Boniface Diocesan) has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week annoucned recently. Chanas-LaRue had three top three finishes in last Saturday's home meet against South Dakota State.

Chanas-LaRue won the 1000 freestyle, going 9:45.84, nearly 15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher last Saturday at Hyslop pool in the team's final home meet. He followed that with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:58.39), before finishing off his day by swimming the 500 freestyle in 4:46.55, taking second.

He currently holds the fifth-fastest time in the 500 freestyle (4:29.59) in the MPSF this season and is ranked eighth in the 200 free (1:39.50) and 11th in the 1650 free (15:52.57). He becomes the first UND athlete to win MSPF weekly honors this season.

UND breaks until Jan. 18-19 when it faces Wyoming, Seattle and host Air Force in a two-day meet.
