OGDEN, Utah-University of North Dakota junior forward Madi Buck has been named co-Big Sky Conference Player of the Week according to an official league announcement Monday. Buck shares the award with Sacramento State's Kylie Kuhns and becomes the second UND player to win the weekly accolade (Emily Evers).
Buck scored a team-high 18
points to go along with six rebounds and a career-best five blocked shots as
North Dakota upset host University of Utah, 62-56, Saturday afternoon in Salt
Lake City, Utah. Buck was 9-of-10 from the free throw line and hit a clutch
3-pointer with the shot-clock expiring to spark a 10-0 UND run in the second
half. North Dakota and Buck's defensive efforts helped keep a potent Utes
attack at bay, holding Utah to just 33 percent shooting and well under their
points per game average coming into the contest.
Buck leads UND with averages of 10.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per
contest. Her .875 free throw percentage also tops the squad.
UND will continue Big Sky Conference play this week at home when it hosts preseason
favorite and defending league champion Idaho State Thursday at the Betty
Engelstad Sioux Center.
