Long-time UND diving record falls Friday at USAFA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- The University of North Dakota men's swimming and diving teams competed in a quad meet Friday at the U.S. Air Force Academy, dropping decisions to Seattle (126-111), Wyoming (187-56) and the host Falcons (180-63).

Highlights at the meet included diver Rick Eberle winning the 1-meter event handily, scoring 320.40 points to set a new UND record. He eclipsed the 25-year-old mark set by Rollie Bottlberghe (313.20) in 1988 and he now holds all three diving records at the school (1-meter, 3-meter, platform). Drew Germain took third in the event (293.85) for the third-best mark in the UND record books.

Adam Gannon scored a third-place showing in the 50 yard freestyle (21.35). Matt Koken was sixth in the 200 butterfly with a 2:01.00 time while Daniel Jacobson was ninth (2:02.47). Gannon later touched in 47.03 in the 100 freestyle to take sixth place. Austin Smith grabbed eighth place in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:16.30 clocking.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
