GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota men’s tennis team earned it’s first win of the season by defeating Portland State, 4-3 on Friday afternoon at Choice Health & Fitness.

The Fighting Hawks started off the dual by winning the doubles point, taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, 7-5 for both.

The Vikings did not go down without a fight; pulling out wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles, but could not pick up another win to top the Fighting Hawks.

North Dakota’s Travis Lau, Ty Misialek, and Simon Danyluk all came up victorious to help earn UND’s four points and win the match. Travis Lau defeated PSU’s Tommy Edwards 6-1, 6-4. Ty Misialek topped Ethan Lopez 6-2, 6-2 for his first singles win on the year. Simon Danyluk downed Sam Larson 6-1, 6-3, also for his first singles win of the year.

Although UND’s Alex Mailes and Eshan Varma did not come up with wins, they both put up some strong play, both going into three sets and losing by a small margin.

North Dakota hopes to continue their winning ways by taking on Augustana on Sunday at 3:30, also at Choice Health & Fitness.
