GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster announced that Alaina Jarnot will be transferring to UND from Monmouth to continue her basketball and academic careers. Jarnot is a Brooklyn Park, Minn., native and will have two years of eligibility remaining following sitting out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"Alaina is a very talented player from successful Maranatha High School and the Minnesota Stars AAU program," Brewster said. "She's extremely competitive, has a strong basketball IQ and is a hard-worker that moves the ball. She's a very fast player with and without the basketball and very tenacious on defense. She knocks down shots from the perimeter and has a charasmatic can-do personality. We are really excited about her arriving on campus."

Jarnot played in 31 games this past season at Monmouth, making 15 starts. She averaged just over three points and grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

As a freshman, the 5-foot-7 point guard led the team with 95 assists and 3.1 assists per game, which ranked fifth in the MAAC. She averaged 6.1 points per game and grabbed 2.1 rebounds per game, starting 28 ball games.

Her career highs include 19 points, seven assists and four steals, each coming in her freshman season.

As a prep, Jarnot scored over 2,000 points and established a new Minnesota high school record with 1,156 assists. A 2016 Minnesota Miss Basketball Candidate, Jarnot picked up all-state honors as a senior after averaging more than 21 points per game and nearly 11 assists per contest, one of her five all-conference seasons. She led Maranatha to five regular-season and conference tournament championships and never lost to a league foe. Jarnot also lettered in soccer and volleyball in high school.

She will join an incoming class that features three other fellow Minnesotans, all signed in November: Rachel Garvey, Tiahna Nicholson and Claire Orth
