GRAND FORKS, N.D. - For the second consecutive year, the University of North Dakota women's golf team has been honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) with a Public Recognition Award for its most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The Public Recognition Awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport.

"Earning a Public Recognition Award once is a compliment to a team and a program, but earning that award in consecutive years is an outstanding achievement," said Amanda Hajdu, UND Athletics' Director of Academic Services. "The APR measures eligibility and retention, and on a small roster losing even one or two points can have a big impact negatively. This award is a testament to the dedication, time management and academic performance of the student-athletes in our women's golf program, as well head coach Natalie Martinson and her dedication to academic performance."

UND's women's golf team was one of 954 teams publicly honored for the multi-year period of 2007-08 to 2010-11.

"These teams prove that it is possible to not only balance academic and athletic commitment, as most student-athletes do; but to exceed standards and post outstanding academic scores," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "The drive and determination shown in the classroom and on the field by these men and women represent what it means to be an NCAA student-athlete."

Full APRs for all teams, including access to postseason play and penalties for low-performing teams, will be released June 20.
