Evers (pronounced EVE-ers), a sprinter and hurdler, will graduate from Red River High School in May. He was the 2011 state champion in the 110-meter hurdles and earned All-Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) honors in each of the last four years. Evers, a two-year team captain, was named 2012 Mr. Red River High School, 2011 Red River Junior Athlete of the Year and 2010 Red River Sophomore Athlete of the Year.
Evers has significant family ties to UND Athletics, including his mother, Margie Hutson Evers, a 2007 Inductee into the UND Hall of Fame, and older sister, Emily, a redshirt freshman on the women's basketball team. His mother is the school record-holder in both the 55-meters and 60-meters.
"We are excited to have a commitment from a local product who is already a state champion, and I'm certain he'll cap his high school career with a tremendous senior year," Galbraith said.
Evers also lettered in football as a free safety and return specialist under head coach and former Sioux defensive back Vyrn Muir, earning all-state and All-EDC honors in 2011. An accomplished student, Evers is a member of the National Association of High School Scholars, the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society.
Evers is the fifth men's track and field recruit to sign an NLI for 2012-13. In February, Galbraith announced the signings of D'Monte Farley (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park High School), Cody Mach (Faribault, Minn./Faribault High School), Zach Olson (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna High School) and Parker Wharram (Independence, Minn./Mound West Tonka High School).
