Des Moines, Iowa - The University of North Dakota men's tennis team competed in its first match since the 1989-1990 season Saturday morning falling to Drake 7-0 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
"Overall I was pleased with the effort," Head Coach Tom Wynne said. "Drake is the best team UND has ever played and is a top 30 team. It was a tough was to start our season and first match in 30 years, but we'll learn and move on."
Drake started the match strong by winning the doubles point with scores of 8-6, 8-2, and 8-6.
UND was also shutout in singles competition. The closest match was between junior Grant Bakke (Bismarck, N.D.) and Ryan Drake which resulted in a 6-3, 6-3 victory for Drake.
The team will look to rebound this afternoon when it takes on Western Illinois at 2 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
