FARGO, N.D. – Another outstanding performance by junior Shawn Johnson highlighted North Dakota’s effort today at the NDSU Tune-Up, the final meet before next week’s Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship.

Johnson launched a discus throw of 53.94 meters (177’) that not only was personal-record, but the second-best mark in the Big Sky Conference this season. The Eveleth, Minn., native also came up just shy of a PR in the shot put, reaching 17.27 meters (56’8”) and finishing second behind only Minnesota’s Mark Jennings (17.73 meters).

In the hammer throw, Johnson reached a season-high 54.23 meters (177’11”) for the 13th-best mark in the Big Sky in that event.

Another UND junior, Roman Waldera, also hit a PR in the discus while competing unattached. A native of Minot, N.D., Waldera recorded a throw of 55.16 meters (181’) was the runner-up to Minnesota’s Justin Barber (57.36 meters).

Notable efforts in the field event for UND included sophomore Nate Peterson’s (Horace, N.D.) personal-record in the 800-meters, in which he clocked a time of 1 minute, 58.78 seconds.
